Proprietor: Donald Jacques

After ending an 18 year career in computer programming, I sought out something far less stressful, and not so political.  After a few years serving as a security guard, an opportunity appeared to enter Commercial Maintenance.  I began part-time with a local company, and after my first 3 months became full time.  The end of the year found me receiving my first raise, and after 3 years I was promoted to Senior Field Supervisor where I served until my departure.

Commercial maintenance involved tasks as straightforward as light bulb services, to and including supervising vendor/contractors on projects or major repairs for our Property Management customers.  Additionally, on-call services to repair lighting, fixtures, toilets, faucets, enclosures, as well as support service calls of the various tenants as needed.  Not only was my technical skill set needed, but a variety of customer service skills were paramount.

It was during my time in Commercial Maintenance that a customer request for Residential repairs came in. My boss suggested I take the Residential requests on my own, and the HandyDuck was born … er hatched.  I maintained the Duck as a part-time business for a few years with mixed success.

I worked as general maintenance at several hotels here in the Phoenix valley, adding to my skill sets, and project knowledge. Again customer service was paramount, but the approach to many of the repairs, and services was heightened by required response times, as well as radio dispatch.  Assuring our guests visit was a pleasant one, was the most important task at hand.

Then I spent a few years in apartment maintenance.  Here I had the opportunity to tackle full “apartment turns”.  This means entering a vacated apartment and preparing it to be re-rented.  This can sometimes mean a quick paint, and cleaning, or could involve re-tiling the floors, floor repairs, wall repairs, even faucet, toilet, or water heater replacements.

I found difficulty in dealing with changing priorities by the management and chose to take the plunge into launching the HandyDuck as my full-time business. I have never looked back.

Through the years, I have seen awesome work, and some scary work.  But either way, time, and the day-to-day abuse we hurl on our homes takes a telling toll.  Even the most skilled repair can be rendered moot if additional issues are not considered, that often can, and do affect the time a repair will last.

While I specialize in Honey-Do lists, there have been a few projects over the years that I have taken great pride in.  I do not take them on lightly, but so far the results have made me, and my customers, very proud.  Check out the Projects page, it may give you some ideas of your own.

I specialize in the Honey-Do lists that we all have.  Those tiny repairs that are too small to call a contractor for, that the husband, or uncle Joe promised to take care of months ago, or that just get put off for that rainy day.  Call me at (480) 330-6119 to request your appointment!

Home is where we live, and it takes a beating.  But turning your honey-do list into a Ducky-Done list is easy, and can often lift our sprits, and make home feel a little more … homey.
